Location Advantage
British Columbia's advantage lies in its pristine ecosystems and nutrient-rich waters habitat for over 640 species of seaweeds, the highest diversity of seaweed species in the world. These are the traditional territories of Indigenous people who have lived in and stewarded nature for many millennia. With 25,000 kilometres of coastline and a skilled marine-based workforce, the region offers exceptional potential for establishing a thriving seaweed cultivation industry. Supported by recent policies promoting responsible aquaculture and marine protection, along with strong financial institutions and well-established infrastructure, British Columbia presents an opportunity to catalyze regenerative economic development and ecosystem management in the ocean.
